Don't Sell Downtown Kiwanis! Speak-Out

Date:
Sat, Apr 8, 2017 - 10:30am to 11:30am

City:

The Kiwanis Speak Out is a public response to the prospective sale of the Downtown Kiwanis location. For decades, the downtown Kiwanis location has served as a beloved touchstone of A2 community and an opportunity for learning and service for thousands of youth. The loss of the original Kiwanis location would be a great loss to the community as the other suburban location is not accessible by bus.

Do we really want more high-rise luxury apartments from out-of-town developers to come in and replace yet another beloved and historic Ann Arbor local business?

Address:
200 S. First Street at Washington, Ann Arbor, MI

Uncomfortable community conversation

Date:
Sun, Apr 9, 2017 - 6:00pm to 8:00pm

The title of Ava DuVernay’s extraordinary and galvanizing documentary 13TH refers to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.” The progression from that second qualifying clause to the horrors of mass criminalization and the sprawling American prison industry is laid out by DuVernay with bracing lucidity.

Even if you don't make it onto the speakers' list at the beginning of the meeting, there is a place on the agenda for people to speak about the "Don't Ask" ordinance.
---------
UPDATE: If possible, let's meet up at 6:30 on the first floor by the benches to have a short discussion before heading up to the meeting together.
