Wed, Jun 20, 2018 - 5:00pm to 8:00pm

City:

We call on the City of Detroit and the newly-formed Great Lakes Water Authority to cancel the existing debts of Detroit Water and Sewerage customers and start afresh with simple, affordable rates: all customer past-due balances are wiped clean.

Detroit made international headlines when tens of thousands of residents lost their access to water through an aggressive shut-off program by the water department.

Freedom of Information Act Training

Date:
Thu, May 24, 2018 - 6:30pm

City:

On May 24th, 6:30-8:30pm, our friend & comrade Oday Salim from Great Lakes Environmental Law Center will lead us in a training on how to file a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. We will be using this skill to get government data that will help us in our lobbying efforts for bills in the state legislature relate to water shut-offs. The main audience of this training is People's Water Board organizations and their members but open to all -- learning to FOIA is a helpful skill to have in your organizing toolbox for whatever work you're engaged in.

Lessenberry protest

Date:
Tue, May 22, 2018 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm

City:

A protest to encourage Wayne State University to take meaningful, and proper action against professor, lecturer and journalism area head Jack Lessenberry. In light of recent events, and allegations of misconduct for decades, we’ve decided to take action as current and former Warriors. He is not the kind of person we feel should be representing our university, or the journalism program. It’s important the proper faculty and administration are aware of our strong feelings to have his teaching privileges revoked.
