Paint the Rock-Abolish Mascots

Date:
Thu, Sep 21, 2017 - 9:00pm to 10:00pm

Native American Law Students Association invites the Indigenous community, law community, and allies to Paint the Rock to draw awareness to the issue of Native American mascots. Michigan Senate Bill 487 would ban the use of "Redskins" in schools. Currently, five schools in Michigan use “Redskins” as their mascot. The United Tribes of Michigan passed a resolution denouncing the use of the term.

We plan to paint the rock for display on Michigan Indian Day, so need volunteers to stand guard during the day to secure our spot and during the night until sunrise.

East Lansing - Petition at Wharton Center before Performances

Date:
Fri, Sep 22, 2017 - 6:30pm to Sun, Sep 24, 2017 - 2:15pm

MILegalize Petitioners - this is an easy event - get there about an hour before the performance and leave 15 minutes after it starts. Petition in the parking ramp where it meets the main entrance. Helps to have several people - and a table can be set up in the marked spot by the column - because most attendees don't care to wait long. Pay to park in the ramp - if you don't want to - park outside on a nearby street.
