City Manager Candidate Forum

Mon, Feb 5, 2018 - 5:30pm to 8:00pm

The Grand Rapids City Commission wants to hear your input on who manages your local government, so it is inviting residents, business leaders and other community stakeholders to a forum featuring finalists for the city manager job.

The City Manager Candidate Forum will take place at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5 at Wealthy Theatre, 1130 Wealthy St. SE. The event will include opportunities for community members to have one-on-one conversations with each candidate.

During the forum, the finalists – who will be announced Jan. 30 – will answer questions from consultants from GovHR, the executive search firm working with the City on filling the city manager position. Following the question and answer session, the finalists will be available for a meet and greet with attendees.

Mayor Rosalynn Bliss is encouraging residents and other community stakeholders to participate in the forum.

“This is a great opportunity for those who live and work in our city to provide input on our next city manager,” Mayor Bliss said. “The City Commission wants to hear all voices as we make this important decision.”

The City has undergone an extensive national search for its next city manager over the past six months following the pending retirement of City Manager Greg Sundstrom. The process is entering the critical public input stage. The public also is invited to attend the city manager interviews, conducted by the City Commission, on Monday, Jan. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and the final interviews, set on Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Both interview panels take place in the ninth-floor Commission Chambers at City Hall, 300 Monroe Ave. NW.
