Community Benefits Ordinances: A Lansing Conversation

Thu, Oct 5, 2017 - 6:30pm to 8:00pm

Join us as we host Rashida Tlaib of the Sugar Law Center and Linda Campbell of the Equitable Detroit Coalition to learn firsthand about their work establishing a community benefits ordinance in Detroit.

A community benefits ordinance is based on the principle that public investment should serve the public good. When real estate developers receive tax abatements from the city, they should commit to legally binding agreements with the larger community, ensuring that the poorest and most ignored of our city have a true voice in the process.

Come for an engaging evening with some dedicated professionals and activists as we learn more about community benefits agreements, exploring what these ideas could look like in Lansing.
