Grassroots Advocacy: What it Takes to Influence Decision Makers

Sun, Feb 12, 2017 - 1:30pm to 3:00pm

How can you affect national, state, and local policy?

Gretchen Driskell, Mike Garfield, and Jane Pacheco have the on-the-ground experience to help you make a difference. Most recently Gretchen Driskell was a State House Representative (52nd District) and before her time in the Michigan Legislature, she was the first female mayor of Saline, a position which she held for fourteen years. Mike Garfield has served as Director of the Ecology Center since 1993. He has led grassroots advocacy campaigns to raise over $100 million in public funds for land preservation, testified before federal and state legislative committees, and served on numerous public advisory boards. Jane Pacheco has been a Chelsea City Councilperson since 2013 and has worked on a number of social justice issue campaigns during her tenure as staff at ICPJ and before that as an average citizen. In their combined roles they have seen public policy development and policy advocacy from all sides. They will share what works and what doesn't in making your voice heard from Capital Hill to City Hall.
