3:00 Meet at the Commons
3:30 March approximately 2 miles (in a loop) through downtown
4:00 Information, Activities and Music at the Commons

Marquette’s Climate March is hosted by the Northern Climate Network, and is one of thousands of marches across the globe on September 8th. The marches are part of the People’s Climate Movement.

The People’s Climate Movement grew out of the largest climate march in US history in New York in September 2014. The Northern Climate Network and students at NMU hosted Marquette’s first climate march in 2014.

This is a family friendly event to raise awareness about a global issue, and a call to action at the local, state and national level.

After the march there will be a community festival at the Commons until 6pm. There will be speakers, music, and information on how our community is taking action in the face of a changing climate.

What are the goals of the March?
GOAL #1: We are part of the Climate Solution! Bring together community members to share information and resources about living lighter on the planet.

GOAL #2: Empower people to be able to talk to their friends, talk to their representatives in government about the urgency of the climate issue and the action and policy options available to us to build a better, cleaner, healthier world.

GOAL #3: Everyone can help by conserving power, using power more efficiently, and doing simple things to reduce their carbon footprint. Examples: change five home lights to LED's. Inflate car tires properly. Insulate homes and renew leaky windows. Ride a bike to work. Moderate meat consumption. Many, many more suggestions available at the festival!
