Phonebanking against lame duck session's voter suppression and anti-teacher-pension bills

The Lame Duck session of the Michigan state legislature is trying to speed through a few bills that may be of interest to some of our readers.

One, known as HB 5218 and SB 102, would change the retirement plans of public school teachers and other public employees, removing pensions and replacing them with 401(k) style retirement plans.12

Another, HB 6066, would make it more difficult to vote by tightening the voter ID requirements.3

Michigan voters may want to call their representatives and give their opinions on these bills. The state's website can help you find the phone numbers of your senators and representatives.

If you live in Ann Arbor, some people are hosting phonebanking sessions, so that you can call your representatives while in the company of others, support one another, and organize.

This document lists phonebanking opportunities and other volunteer opportunities.
