Good police practices, thorough training, carefully crafted policies and appropriate allocation of resources in law enforcement can ensure public safety and prevent potential abuses in encounters between police officers and residents.

The ACLU has created model policies on police surveillance, police militarization and racial profiling that have been implemented by various police agencies nationwide.
