Pride is Political: Rally and March

Sat, Jun 16, 2018 - 11:00am to 12:30pm

11 AM - Veteran's Memorial Park

Pride is political. It has been political since the first queers fought back against state sponsored police violence against our community. It will be political so long as we're denied basic human rights that includes the right not to be fired from our jobs; denied housing, healthcare, and public accommodations. It will be political so long as we're denied equal representation in government and straight and cis washed in the media and popular culture.

Join us for a RALLY and march before the start of Grand Rapids Pride as we show the West Michigan community that we're here, we're queer, and they can get used to it. Are you sick of being a second class citizen? Are you worried that what little rights you've won are soon to be stripped away? Then join us and FIGHT BACK!

We're having a rally at Veteran's Memorial Park after which we'll march to the entrance of Grand Rapids Pride to demonstrate to the organizers of Grand Rapids Pride that they must put the politics back into Pride. It's not just an excuse to drink and provide booths for corporate sponsors, Pride exists to uplift our community and fight for a better life for us all.

Accessibility: There will be chairs, water, and medics.

*NOTE* This is a duplicate event for the rally and march already scheduled. It is made through pages which is a bit easier to share and grow the reach of the event.
