Say No to Endless War in Afghanistan

Sat, Oct 7, 2017 - 4:15pm to 5:00pm

Say NO to endless war in Afghanistan . . . on the 16th anniversary of the war.

The war will end when we, the people, demand it. Join the protest.
Bring a sign. Bring a friend.

If you RSVP here, we can send you a reminder and any last minute details:

On October 7, 2001, the Bush Administration started what will be the longest war in U.S. history. President Obama tried to wind down the war, to little effect. Trump wants to send 3,000 to 5,000
additional troops. Why, after 16 years, are we still in Afghanistan?
Despite the extreme loss of life, the war is at a stalemate. It has accomplished nothing other than enrich weapons manufacturers, military contractors, and corrupt Afghani officials. How many more
will die?

Over 225,000 Afghani civilians dead
2,350 U.S. soldiers dead
20,000 U.S. soldier wounded

While our government spends billions on an unwinnable war, it short-changes education, allows infrastructure to crumble, and fails to address climate change.

$1.07 trillion spent on the war since 2001
$2 trillion in projected spending
$840.7 billion in Trump’s budget for 2018

War is costly. Peace is priceless.

Imagine what a peace economy would look like: Modernized infrastructure, including public transit, green jobs and reduced climate change, excellent public education, Medicare for all, and a fair wage. If you’re for any of these things, you need to be against the war and for peace.

Protest sponsored by the Detroit Area Peace with Justice Network.
