Support Jose at his Hearing!

Wed, Oct 11, 2017 - 8:30am to 11:30am

The next court date for Ypsilanti's Jose Valle Rodriguez is October 11, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.

Jose is a refugee from El Salvador who lives in Ypsilanti with his wife Karina and their 2-year-old son.

Jose came to the US from El Salvador--fleeing poverty and gang violence--when he was 17 and has been in the US for 14 years. He has no criminal record.

On the morning of Wednesday, May 24th--the same day that ICE raided Sava’s--Jose, Karina and their son left their house and an unmarked black SUV followed them.

When they got to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s office on Hogback, the SUV pulled them over and arrested Jose in front of his family. Only after that did they learn that a judge had ordered Jose’s removal in 2005 because he failed to show for an immigration hearing.

Jose never received a notice to appear for that hearing because the courts sent the notices to the wrong zip code. The postal service returned the notices marked “return to sender” and “addressee unknown”.

After being detained for over a month, Jose was released on bond on July 28th after his family and communtiy made a united drive to raise the bond money. He is home with his family today, but we need to keep supporting Jose until his status is secure.

Please plan to attend the court date on October 11th to show the love and support Jose has from his community.
