Faith Communities Take Action: Declare Sanctuary for Immigrants

Date:
Tue, Mar 14, 2017 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

City:

On March 14th, faith communities across Michigan will declare themselves Sanctuaries for immigrant families in crisis.
This is a crisis - we cannot allow families to be rounded up and broken apart. It is an affront to our values as people of faith and to our tradition as Americans. We will use the strength of our community and the moral force of our faith to protect the families who seek shelter in this urgent time. Join us!

East-side faith communities will be declaring their Sanctuaries at Central United Methodist, 23 E Adams Ave, Detroit. 1pm.

OUR NEXT STEP IN STRENGTHENING ANN ARBOR’S STATUS AS A SANCTUARY CITY

Our calls, emails, and mobilization to the city council meeting on February 21st resulted in the city council postposing the first reading of the “Don’t Ask” ordinance in order to improve the language.

The overall intent of the “Don’t Ask” ordinance is to protect undocumented people in our community by limiting the City of Ann Arbor’s collection of information related to whether someone is documented or not.

Interfaith Solidarity Rally and March

Date:
Wed, Feb 22, 2017 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

City:

Friends -

Please join Michigan United, APIA Vote, and many others for an interfaith march to support immigrants, Muslims and refugees.

The event will start at Cherry Hill United Methodist Church in Canton and proceed to a mosque, Masjid Bilal, one mile away.

It is the February recess-- a time when members of Congress are back in their districts. It is important that we send an urgent message of solidarity -- people of all faiths stand together against the Muslim ban, the wall, and the deportations that separate families.
