Rally in support of people arrested by ICE last night

There will be a protest today (6/12) at 1 PM at Mother of God Chaldean Catholic Church in support of the many people who were arrested by ICE in the Detroit area today. I was told ICE may show up there, again, as they did this morning when they arrested someone. The protest will be held at, 25585 Berg Road, Southfield, Michigan.

We need a strong showing of opposition to HB 4105 and HB 4334, which are currently in the Local Government Committee in the MI State House. These bills would:
-Prohibit sanctuary cities and counties and require local police officers to ask a person about their immigration status if they suspect that they might be an immigrant.
-Burden local governments and officials with additional costs, reporting requirements, and threats of litigation and penalties.

This week they will begin discussion of the bill. We will attend the meeting to make our opposition loud and clear.

On Wednesday, June 7th, the committee will hear testimony from supporters and opponents of the bill. Please attend this meeting and plan to speak.

Washtenaw County Commission Vote on Immigrant Rights

There will be an important vote at the Washtenaw County Commissioners meeting this evening on an immigrant rights package. Local organizers are hoping for a strong turnout to support the passage of this package that will ensure immigrants in the County are treated with dignity and respect.
