Wayne State University Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild and the Michigan Coalition for Human Rights present a discussion on mass incarceration. A panel of speakers will present the roots of the problem, the realities presented and what can be done to resist its effects. The program will take place at noon in room 2242 in the auditorium at the WSU Law School.

Speakers include Heather Ann Thompson, Ed Sanders, and Yusef Shakur.

The session will also highlight the ways that communities in Detroit and beyond are organizing to resist oppressive policing and the carceral state, and envision new notions of safety and security.

MI PPC Candlelight Vigil at Ingham County Jail

On Tuesday night, the Michigan Poor People's campaign, and the Detroit Light Brigade will stand on the other side of the wall from Bill and Tommy who are being held at the Ingham County Jail. We will join our cries with theirs as we light candles to remember all of those who are incarcerated that night. Join us for an interfaith, candlelit vigil to stand against the prison system. We will read and sing and hold silence for an end to mass incarceration.

The event is located in the Applied Technology Center at the GRCC downtown campus right next door to the GRCC library. It is located inside the ATC building in the Auditorium.

Join us for a screening of the documentary film “The 13th”. In this thought provoking film scholars, activist, & politicians analyze the criminalization of African Americans & The US prison boom. There will be a panel discussion which will include city leaders, activist & candidates on how we can fight against this injustice that is occurring.
