It’s been over 2 months since contaminated land collapsed into the Detroit River and the site has yet to be remediated. It’s clear that the City of Detroit could be doing more to protect our communities and our water. That’s why we need a Detroit Waterway Protection Ordinance so situations like this one never happens again.

On Thursday, January 16 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, Congresswoman Debbie Dingell (D-MI), officials from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), officials from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE), the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, and local officials including Washtenaw County Commissioners, Ann Arbor City Council members, Ann Arbor Township, Scio Township, and other stakeholders will hold a community meeting on the Gelman Plume.

Since July, City of Ann Arbor staff have been working with the city's contractor Tetra Tech to evaluate locations to install monitoring wells between the north edge of the contaminated 1,4-dioxane plume prohibition zone and Barton Pond. The public is invited to attend an informational meeting on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, 7-9 p.m. at Larcom City Hall, Council Chambers, located at 301 E. Huron St.

In collaboration with Indigenous Leaders from all over MI, Ann Arbor Light Brigade, the organizing committee for the Pipe Out Paddle Protest, and the Detroit Light Brigade will be meet at the foot of the bridge to demand Enbridge #SHUTDOWNLINE5 once and for all. It is our duty to protect the Great Lakes for 7 generations ahead.
