PFAS Action Now Day

Tue, Dec 4, 2018 - 9:30am to 12:30pm

Join Michigan LCV on Tuesday, December 4 in Lansing (the House Democrats Press Room, House Office Building, 11th floor) to tell lawmakers that we demand PFAS action NOW.

We’ll be standing shoulder-to-shoulder with experts and residents who have been impacted by PFAS-contaminated drinking water and lobbying lawmakers to urge them to act.

We have known about these dangerous chemicals for years, but have yet to see action on legislation that would protect Michigan communities. Right now, the Legislature could take action on four bills, which we’re calling the PFAS Action Now Agenda:

-HB 5375 would create the toughest PFAS drinking water standard in the country.

-HB 6185 & 6186 would improve requirements for the PFAS-laden firefighting foam used by firefighters, which is an issue at military bases like Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Northern Michigan.

-HB 6373 would require the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to establish a comprehensive plan for PFAS clean up.

-Renew Michigan would raise the state’s landfill dumping fee in order to fund clean up of contamination sites statewide.
