Show Up! Racial Equity Policy Public Hearing

Wed, Sep 5, 2018 - 7:30pm to 10:30pm

Wednesday, September 5th the County Commission will hold a public hearing and potentially vote on a racial equity ordinance ( ) for Washtenaw County that would hold public offices and officials accountable to measurable improvements in racial equity - and equity overall.

Having attended feedback sessions in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, we are grateful for the work that has been done to produce this ordinance and we also believe we must show up to ensure that the County Commissioners votes to enact an ordinance with the following commitments:
- creating a dedicated racial equity office
- staffing that office with five or more experienced people
- fully funding that office
- holding public officials (elected and not) accountable to measurable improvements in racial equity
- fighting anti-Blackness through public education and internal education within government and its services
- de-criminalization as a central component of anti-racist, racial equity work

Please show up at the County Commission meeting and speak during public comments (no need to sign up, speaking time is at the beginning) to advocate for all of the above.
